DUMB BY NAME, dumb by nature?
Dumb Starbucks hit the headlines when it opened its doors in Los Angeles on February 7th but just 4 days later it’s back in the news for a very different reason.
ABC7 Eyewitness News was in the area this morning and came across a notice of closure on the coffee shop’s door.
It seems somebody forget to apply for a health permit. What an absolute joke, eh?
Well, as it turns out, the whole thing was a joke in the first place.
The Los Angeles Times reports Comedy Central star Nathan Fielder revealed that he was the one behind it all during a press conference outside the shop on Monday.
The comedian’s series, Nathan For You, sees him giving rather odd advice to businesses that are struggling to cope: Season 2 just so happens to be hitting screens rather soon.
Variety says Fielder told the press that the LA shop would be open until Friday February 14th, and claimed a second Dumb Starbucks would pop up in Brooklyn some time soon.
And as for Starbucks? Well, as a spokesperson told The Huffington Post:
We are evaluating next steps and while we appreciate the humor, they cannot use our name, which is a protected trademark.
Guess those New Yorkers might not get their hands on their dumb coffee after all.
